Joan Fernandez is the head of HR of a large Consulting company and has completed a training workshop for all the middle managers on Coaching. After the session many of the middle managers identified topics that they could benefit from coaching. While some of them could identify a suitable coach. a few of them were struggling to identify one.Lily Tan approaches Joan to discuss her selection of a coach. She explains that the topic she has identified, her immediate supervisor is perhaps the best suited for the role of coach. However, she says to Joan that she does not have a good relationship with her supervisor, Eric Soon. On enquiring as to why she thinks she does not have a good relationship with Eric, Lily explains that in the last few months, she had slipped up and missed a couple of datelines which has made Eric cross with her. Lily also mentions that she heard from another colleague mention that Eric has expressed his dissatisfaction with her and doesn't think she will last long in the department.
If you were Joan what would you do to resolve this situation and get Lily’s supervisor to coach her on the topic selected?
